Same sex marriage

This week the Culture Secretary Maria Miller will make a Commons statement pushing ahead with plans to allow same sex marriage - including in religious settings. The Prime Minister will be stressing that no religious organisation will be forced to hold such ceremonies and MPs will be given a free vote. A group of senior Conservatives including Michael Gove and Boris Johnson have signed up to a group campaigning for this change. But more than a hundred Tory MPs are thought to oppose the idea including Stewart Jackson. He told me why he thought David Cameron would face a backlash from his party and from religious groups.

This interview was broadcast on Sunday 9th December on BBC Radio 4's The Westminster Hour.
