Clegg on Duncan Smith call for rich to return welfare
There was a "difference of approach" between Conservatives and Liberal Democrats over plans for welfare reform, Nick Clegg has said.
He did not agree with a suggestion from work and pensions secretary Iain Duncan Smith for wealthy elderly people who did not need benefits to help with fuel bills, TV licences or free travel to return the money to the government, saying: "I don't think that makes sense".
The deputy prime minister called for welfare reform where "you start at the top and work down".
