Douglas Alexander on Syria and UK-US relations

The UK-US relationship was "strong, deep and I believe will endure" the shadow foreign secretary said, despite British MPs refusing to back military intervention in Syria.

Asked if Labour had changed its mind over supporting David Cameron, Douglas Alexander said he had set out Labour's position on BBC Radio 4's Today programme on Tuesday for "tests and conditions required to be met", ahead of Thursday's vote in Parliament.

He spoke to Andrew Marr about the vote and how it may affect relations with the US.

Mr Alexander said: "I don't think anybody can be proud of how the international community has failed Syria over the last two-and-a-half years."
