John Cole: BBC DG Tony Hall pays tribute to former political editor

One of the most influential and respected journalists in British broadcasting, John Cole, has died at the age of 85.

John was the BBC's political editor for 11 years before retiring from the post after the 1992 General Election.

He died peacefully in his sleep at his home in Surrey, surrounded by his family.

The BBC's Director-General Tony Hall has led the tributes to the broadcaster.
