In 2008, William Hague mocked Tony Blair over his alleged interest in the European presidency.

When he was shadow foreign secretary, Mr Hague's comments had MPs on both sides of the Commons in laughter, as he pondered how then-Prime Minister Gordon Brown would react to a President Blair.
