Ed Davey: UK's high level of energy security and supply
Britain will remain the most energy-secure country in the European Union, said Ed Davey.
The energy secretary was asked about the margins of spare capacity, which have been much lower than under the former Central Electricity Generating Board.
He said action taken by the government, along with the National Grid and Ofgem, meant supply levels would be "comfortably above our reliability standards" this winter.
Mr Davey spoke to Andrew Neil on the Daily Politics after he gave his annual update to MPs about energy policy.
There have been reports of possible blackouts and firms asked to change working patterns to cut demand in the late afternoons and early evenings to cope with demand.
