Violent prisoners will spend 'longer behind bars'

More prisoners will "stay in prison for longer" if they assault staff, according to prisons minister Andrew Selous.

Assaults on prison staff are "wholly unacceptable", he said, and would result in time being added on to sentences.

The minister said he thought the new protocol would be in place by the end of the financial year.
