Major on EU: We are not 'seeking to end free movement'

Sir John Major has said the new deal over the European Union was not about "seeking to end free movement".

However the former prime minister did emphasise that the UK population was set to rise significantly more than other EU states and a "pragmatic" deal would be necessary.

He said in the next few decades the UK's population was forecast to increase by 25%, while Germany's was set to decrease in the same period.
