George Osborne: Tax credit change 'a judgement call'

Chancellor George Osborne tells MPs the tax credit change is "a judgement call" and adds that he is "comfortable" with the call he has made, which he says has been backed by MPs twice.

Giving evidence to the Treasury Select Committee - who were asking him about providing more information on the impact of the proposed changes - Mr Osborne said it was now up to the House of Lords to stick by "the 1911 settlement that the House of Lords does not try to second guess" the House of Commons on financial matters.
