Theresa May criticises Boris Johnson's negotiating skills

Home Secretary Theresa May has made a cutting remark about Boris Johnson's negotiating skills.

Setting out her vision for the Conservative party leadership she said: "Last time he did a deal with the Germans he came back with three nearly-new water cannon."

Mrs May refused to allow the use of water cannon in England and Wales - a year after three of them were bought by the Metropolitan Police.

Boris Johnson, then mayor of London, had authorised the purchase at a total cost of £328,883.
