Alistair Darling: Government 'shambolic' on pay dispute

Chancellor Philip Hammond has insisted pay policy has not changed and the "right balance" must continue to be struck in terms of what is fair for workers and taxpayers.

Former Labour Chancellor Alistair Darling says Hammond should have a "spending review" so the government can set out what its priorities should be.

He added that cabinet ministers publicly criticising the chancellor over public sector pay made the government seem "shambolic".
