Why would anyone want to be a councillor?

Politics at ground level involves dealing with street lighting, bin collections and planning applications.

Yet thousands of candidates have put themselves forward as candidates at next week's local elections.

As part of his election tour, BBC Newsnight Scotland's Ian Hamilton has been to New Lanark to meet some retiring councillors who have a few words of advice.
