Preparing for winter on Scotland's roads

Two new ice breakers are unveiled that will be used to help keep Scotland's roads clear this winter.

"We have learned our lesson," was the message from transport officials.

The RAIKO equipment is used in Finland and other Scandinavian countries to cut through the kind of hard packed sheet ice which closed the M8 in 2010, leaving hundreds of motorists stranded.

The Scottish government has also announced strengthened weather stations and a new camera network to improve decision-making during bad weather.
