Leo Cushley replaces 'disgraced' Cardinal Keith O'Brien

The Catholic church has unveiled its successor to Cardinal Keith O'Brien, who stood down as Archbishop of St Andrews and Edinburgh after admitting inappropriate sexual conduct.

Scottish priest Monsignor Leo Cushley is originally from the Diocese of Motherwell and has gathered extensive experience working in the Vatican.

Monsignor Cushley told BBC Scotland he will examine allegations regarding his predecessor's behaviour: "There is a great deal to be thought about. There are the sad circumstances of the Cardinal's departure."

"This is a new chapter," he said.
