Air pollution levels in one Glasgow school run could fail European air quality standards

A group of schoolchildren have joined forces with environmental experts to measure the pollution caused by their local school run.

Previous efforts to discourage car use among the parents of pupils at Bearsden Academy in East Dunbartonshire have failed.

Pupils decided to measure the effect it was having on air quality.

They found pollution levels so high that if the readings during this two week period were repeated throughout the year, the area around the school would fail to meet European and Scottish air quality standards.
