A9 average speed cameras switched on

The longest network of average speed cameras in Britain has been switched on along the A9 between Inverness and Dunblane.

The Scottish government hopes to reduce the number of serious accidents on the route but campaigners claim most accidents on the road are caused by dangerous overtaking manoeuvres rather than speeding.

The speed limit for heavy lorries has been increased to 50mph to try to cut back on tailbacks.

BBC Scotland's Craig Anderson reports.
