Inmates: 'Our thoughts were taken on board'

Experts have questioned whether radical plans to transform the way women are imprisoned in Scotland will succeed in lowering the prison population.

Under the proposals, Cornton Vale will be replaced by a much smaller prison, with the majority of offenders transferred into community-based custodial units.

A group of prisoners from Cornton Vale told human rights lawyer Helena Kennedy QC what they thought of the plans.

Women Prisoners: Throw Away the Key? will be broadcast on BBC One Scotland on Wednesday 15 June, at 21:30, and for a month afterwards on the BBC iPlayer.
