Football career helping new recruit firefighter
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service has welcomed its largest ever intake of new recruits. 101 new firefighters graduated during a ceremony at the service's training centre in Cambuslang.
They were selected from 5,300 applicants and have been learning the skills needed to protect Scotland from fires, car crashes, severe weather and terrorism.
Among them was Rhonda Jones, 38, an ex-Scotland and Old Firm footballer from Motherwell who was inspired to join the service after playing in Florida during the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
She told BBC Scotland her footballing career stands her in good stead to take on her new role.
