Asylum seeker Mehdi: 'I just want to be somewhere safe'

MSPs have called for a new strategy to deal with problems of destitution affecting asylum seekers in Scotland.

A report by Holyrood's equalities and human rights committee says the current system lacks compassion and humanity.

They have called for a range of measures to tackle the problem, including a Scottish anti-destitution strategy and better guidance for local authorities dealing with people who have insecure immigration status.

Asylum seeker Mehdi told BBC Scotland's Sally McNair that he is grateful for the protection that a night shelter in Glasgow provides.
