Addict on quitting drugs at Wrexham's Hafen Wen detox centre

A former drug user at a Wrexham detox centre has explained his experiences of trying to give up.

Rob Thomas visited the Hafen Wen detox centre in Wrexham as the UK government is being urged to consider a system of drugs decriminalisation pioneered in Portugal.

The Home Affairs Committee said it was impressed by Portugal's approach - where people caught with small amounts of drugs are not prosecuted but can be given treatment instead - and calls on ministers to monitor the effects of cannabis legalisation in other parts of the world.

The report makes 48 recommendations in total including more random drug testing in prisons and more focus on the increasing levels of addiction to prescription drugs.
