Broadcasting in Wales: 90 years since BBC went on air in Cardiff

The first radio broadcast in Wales was transmitted 90 years ago on 13 February, 1923.

It came from a tiny studio above a music shop on Castle Street, Cardiff, and broadcast from a radio station called 5WA, which would later become part of the BBC regional programme for Wales.

Oliver Hides plays a version of Dafydd y Garreg Wen, sung by Mostyn Thomas in the opening broadcast, and then looks back on 90 years of broadcasting with veteran BBC Wales presenter Vincent Kane and Tom O'Malley, professor of media at Aberystwyth University.
