Manic James Dean Bradfield's hopes for Newbridge Memo

Manic Street Preacher James Dean Bradfield has unveiled a plaque to officially open the Newbridge Memorial Hall and Institute building.

Residents have spent a decade trying to save the historic building - known as the Memo - which was built by miners in 1925 to commemorate members of the local community who lost their lives in World War I.

Work started in January 2012 on the hall in Caerphilly county.

The restoration forms part of a wider £12m regeneration of the town centre, which included the Calzaghe Bridge, named after local boxer Joe.

The building received national recognition as runner-up in the BBC's Restoration series which raised the plight of important buildings around the UK.

It also has a special place in the heart of singer James Dean Bradfield, who spoke to Wales Today's Paul Heaney.
