Severn Barrage: Neath MP Peter Hain reveals plan frustrations

One of the leading supporters of a barrage across the Severn Estuary, Neath MP Peter Hain, has criticised the UK government for dragging its feet over the proposal.

Hafren Power wants to build an 11-mile barrage between Lavernock Point near Penarth, Vale of Glamorgan, and Brean near Weston-super-Mare, Somerset.

But Mr Hain, a former Welsh Secretary, says he has become frustrated at the way the scheme is treated compared to other energy proposals.

Rhodri Lewis's report includes interviews with Prof Brian Morgan, of Hafren Power, and Prof David MacKay, chief scientific adviser to the Department of Environment and Climate Change.

In a report, the House of Commons' Energy and Climate Change Committee criticised a "lack of information and a perceived lack of transparency" about the proposal.
