Call to back Anglesey 'village green' beach bid

Campaigners bidding to halt part of a £100m waterfront development on Anglesey are appealing for help to fund their 'village green' legal case.

They want Newry Beach on Holyhead given protected status, blocking part of the 500-berth marina scheme.

Anglesey council gave the project planning permission in 2012.

But after legal advice, the authority has now announced a public inquiry will take place in October.

Prof Terry Looker asked an audience of about 150 in Holyhead on Thursday to back a bid to hire legal specialists to fight the case to have Newry Beach marked a village green.
