Archive: South Wales valleys initiatives in 1980s and 1990s
An action plan to create 7,000 jobs and revitalise the south Wales valleys is being published.
Minister in charge Alun Davies has been leading a taskforce and has already called for an "industrial renaissance" and for the valleys to be more than "shiny new roads".
One suggestion is for economic growth in communities around local hub towns.
There have been previous attempts to regenerate the former coal mining and steel areas of south Wales with initiatives stretching back nearly 30 years.
Here is some archive BBC Wales news footage.
