Recycling waste fires: Are regulators tough enough?

Calls have been made for the tougher regulation of waste recycling sites in Wales after 13 serious incidents in the past four years.

Six of those fires were in the Vale of Glamorgan and involved two related companies.

Sharon Evans, whose businesses were affected by smoke from one of the fires, said regulator Natural Resources Wales (NRW) had known there were fire risks.

But NRW said it had been preparing a compliance notice for the company involved when the fire occurred.
