Is arming Syrian rebels a wise move?

The Syrian government has urged the United Nations Security Council to include the al-Nusra Front, an armed Syrian opposition group, on its list of groups linked to al-Qaeda.

On Wednesday the jihadist front pledged allegiance to the leader of al-Qaeda, Ayman al-Zawahiri, raising the question whether offering help for the anti-Assad opposition risks creating a new type of monster in Syria?

Newsnight's discusses this with Thwaiba Kanafani, who volunteered for the Free Syria Army, and Dr Halla Diyab who thinks outsiders should not arm rebel groups.
