Al-Shabab names Ahmad Umar as their new leader

Somalia's Islamist group al-Shabab has appointed a new leader, after the death of Ahmed Abdi Godane in a US air strike.

The group has named Ahmad Umar as his successor, vowing to take revenge for Godane's death.

The Somali authorities had earlier put the country on alert for potential retaliatory attacks by al-Shabab.

Peter Dobbie reports.
