South African public sector workers on strike

In South Africa, schools have been closed and many hospitals badly hit as more than a million public sector workers went on strike over pay.

Unions affiliated with Cosatu, South Africa's main union federation, have been holding out for an 8.6% rise, more than the latest government offer of 7%.

Police and customs officials also look likely to join in.

Jonah Fisher reports.
