Nelson Mandela is discharged from hospital

Former South African President Nelson Mandela has been discharged from hospital, one day after being admitted because of a long-standing abdominal complaint.

He underwent a laparoscopy, a procedure that involves inserting a camera through the abdomen or pelvis.

President Jacob Zuma's office said 93-year-old Mr Mandela was sent home after the checks "did not indicate anything seriously wrong".

The BBC's Mike Wooldridge reports from Johannesburg.
