Armed guard on stricken Costa ship to repel pirates

The Italian cruise ship that has been adrift in the Indian Ocean with more than 1,000 people on board is being towed to the Seychelles by a French fishing vessel.

The Costa Allegra was left without power when a fire knocked out its generators.

The waters near the Seychelles have been vulnerable to pirate attacks in the past.

A spokeswoman for the President of the Seychelles, Srdjana Janosevic, spoke to the BBC and explained the precautions the Seychelles government were taking.
