Mali PM Cheik Modibo Diarra announces resignation

Mali's Prime Minister Cheik Modibo Diarra has resigned on state television.

His announcement came just hours after he was arrested by soldiers who were behind a military coup in March.

Mr Diarra was made prime minister of an interim government in April after the military officially handed power back to civilians.

He apologised to the "entire nation", which he said had "suffered in this crisis in many ways".
