ANCYL: Tutu 'does not represent views of South Africans'

In 2014 South Africa will hold a general election and for the first time a whole new generation will cast their vote. This will be the first generation to have grown up in a post-apartheid country.

But with a country struggling to overcome inequality, corruption and youth unemployment, what can the ruling African National Congress (ANC) offer the younger generation?

Earier this year Archbishop Desmond Tutu said he was a strong supporter of the ANC's struggle against white minority rule but he would no longer vote for the ANC "after the way things have gone."

The interim president of the ANC Youth League (ANCYL), Mzwandile Masina, responded by saying that while he held the archbishop in high regard he "does not represent the views of South Africans."

He said Archbishop Tutu should "go and vote for a party of his choice and leave the ANC alone."
