Vaccine ban hampers Pakistan's polio drive

Hundreds of thousands of children in Pakistan's tribal areas will not receive a polio vaccine in the first immunisation campaign since a Taliban-imposed ban, according to officials.

The Taliban has said that vaccinations in North and South Waziristan will not be allowed until the US ends drone strikes in the region.

Pakistan is one of only three countries in the world where polio remains endemic, but many parents are still reluctant to have their children immunised.
