China mine fire leaves 28 dead

An electrical fire inside a coal shaft in northern China left 28 miners dead, government officials say.

The accident was triggered when an electrical cable caught fire at the privately owned Xiaonangou coal mine in Sangshuping town in northern Shaanxi Province.

Rescuers had retrieved the bodies of five miners by Sunday morning, CCTV reported.
