Australian PM Julia Gillard visits flood-hit areas

The Australian Prime Minister, Julia Gillard, has been touring north-eastern areas of the country, which have been inundated by the worst flooding in about fifty years.

Anna Bligh, the state premier of Queensland, has said more than 200,000 people had been affected by the floods across an area bigger than France and Germany combined.

Thousands of people have had to be evacuated from their homes. The cost of the disaster is estimated to run into billions of dollars.

Mike Wooldridge reports.
