Hungary's PM Viktor Orban appeals for European support

Hungary's PM Viktor Orban has told a sceptical European Parliament that his government's legal dispute with the EU can be resolved swiftly.

The EU Commission has said it will take legal action against Hungary over laws which opponents say jeopardise the independence of its central bank and judiciary.

Mr Orban told MEPs that changes to Hungary's constitution were in line with European Union values.

He asked for the European Parliament's support for what he called the country's ''serious transformation''.
