Iceland's ex-PM Haarde denounces 'silly' verdict

Icelandic's former prime minister has dismissed the guilty verdict against him, for failing to formally inform his ministers about the country's imminent financial troubles in 2008.

Geir Haarde was also found not guilty of negligence over the crisis, which saw the island's economy go into meltdown.

Mr Haarde said he was pleased with the result overall, but described the charge he was found guilty of as "silly", and claimed the verdict was politically motivated.
