French avalanche victims named

The Foreign Office has confirmed the names of two British climbers killed in the avalanche in the French Alps - John Taylor and Steve Barber were both from York. Their families have been told.

Tributes are also still being paid to Roger Payne, the other British climber to die in the accident on Mont Maudit, in the Mont Blanc range near Chamonix.

Jean-Baptiste Estachy, of the French Police, gave details about the rescue operation, and explained what he thought caused the avalanche.
