President Putin signs controversial adoption ban into law

Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a bill banning Americans from adopting Russian children.

The controversial move is said to be part of Russia's retaliation against a US law that puts sanctions on officials suspected of human rights violations.

Some senior government officials in Moscow have spoken out against the law, but supporters argue the ban is necessary because some adopted children have faced abuse by families in the US.

Steve Rosenberg reports from Moscow.
