Why are migrants fleeing Middle East now?

As European countries continue to argue over a solution to the migrant crisis, thousands of people continue to cross the EU's southern borders.

On the Greek island of Lesbos, large numbers of refugees are gathered, hoping to travel to Athens and then on to northern and western Europe.

Many of them are from the Middle East.
