Nicaragua and Venezuela offer Snowdon asylum

The presidents of Nicaragua and Venezuela have offered political asylum to US fugitive Edward Snowden.

Mr Snowdon has been seeking asylum since the US announced it was to prosecute him over the leaking of thousands of classified intelligence documents.

Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega said his country would do so "if circumstances permit".

Venezuela's Nicolas Maduro said he would also give asylum to Mr Snowdon, who is believed to be staying in a transit area of a Moscow airport.
