Protesters gather in Bahrain's Pearl Square

Police in Bahrain have fired tear gas and shot guns at anti-government demonstrators trying to resume their protest in Pearl Square, Manama.

The confrontation came just hours after the government ordered the military off the streets.

The authorities said today they would now open a dialogue with the opposition.

Ian Pannell reports from Bahrain.
