Syria: Battle for Rastan heightens

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's army has regained control of the central town of Rastan, according to state media.

It follows five days of fierce fighting in the town where army defectors had joined protesters.

A fresh wave of protests erupted after prayers on Friday in cities across the country, leaving at least 18 people, protesters and troops, dead, according to activists.
