Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit to be freed in exchange

An Israeli soldier held by Palestinian militants for the past five years will be released in exchange for the freeing of hundreds of Palestinian prisoners.

The deal which will free Sgt Gilad Shalit, captured in a cross-border raid in 2006, was reached after what Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called arduous talks.
