Syrian rebel group claims military base attack

Syrian army defectors have attacked a major military base near Damascus, according to one of their commanders.

Speaking to the BBC, Colonel Riyad al-Asad said that the Free Syrian Army (FSA) carried out a "successful operation" against the ruling regime.

He also said that the new members were joining his group on a daily basis and that it had the support of the Syrian public.

Parts of the notorious Air Force Intelligence building in Harasta were reported to have been destroyed in Wednesday's attack, but there were no reports of casualties.
