UN suspends patrols in Syria over escalating violence

The United Nations has suspended its monitoring mission in Syria because of increasing violence.

It said its 300 observers are facing 'significant risk to their lives' and will return to their bases until further notice.

There are new reports of assaults on civilian areas, and fighting between rebel and government forces.

The White House says it is consulting its international partners about what to do next.

Paul Wood reports.
