Syrian refugees number over 100,000 in August

The new international envoy to Syria, Lakhdar Brahimi, has described the death toll in the country as staggering and the destruction as catastrophic.

More than a hundred-thousand people fled Syria in August, according to the UN.

It is the highest monthly figure since the conflict began in March last year.
