Afghan attacks soldier Robert Bales to plead guilty

An American soldier charged with killing 16 civilians in Afghanistan has agreed to plead guilty to murder charges, in a deal to avoid the death penalty.

Staff sergeant Robert Bales left his remote base in the south of the country in March last year and attacked people in two nearby villages.

Most of the victims were women and children.

David Loyn reports from Kabul.
