Bowen: 'Syrian leaders will be happy about vote'

The BBC's Jeremy Bowen says the Syrian leadership "will be happy" about a UK vote rejecting military action following the alleged use of chemical weapons in the country.

He said it would be seen as a sign that Western consensus had fractured.

David Cameron said he would respect the defeat of a government motion by 285-272, ruling out joining US-led strikes.

BBC World presenter Martine Dennis asked Middle East Editor Jeremy Bowen, one of the few western journalists in Damascus, if there had been an official response from the Syrian government about the British stance.
